Metro Moncton’s YWCA Garden Tour Returns

A popular summer event, Metro Moncton’s Garden Tour returns on Saturday, July 26th, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The YWCA plays host to a self-guided tour of seven select private gardens. The day will inspire avid and emerging gardeners, as well as visitors who will enjoy a walk in the splendor of some of Metro Moncton’s most notable gardens.  Presented by the YWCA and MacArthur’s Nurseries Inc., local gardeners open their gardens to raise funds for the YWCA of Moncton Women’s Resource Center - dedicated to providing opportunities, resources and support to women and our community.

Eileen Fowler

Eileen has a large garden that has spread unto her neighbor's yard and the property behind her. She has turnedthe woods into a terraced garden and used the rocks unearthed in clearing the space to create a unique rock garden blooming with perennials. People donate plants to this "community garden", and Eileen names the plants after their donors.

Kim and Glenn Steeves

The steeves started gardening about 6 years ago as a result of family and friends needing a good home for some of their cherished perennials. Now they always think of them when they are in the garden. Their favorites are the Hostas that line the front yard, the Astilbe garden in the backyard and of course the numerous annuals that are so cheerful with their blooms all year.

Tony & Mien Rommens

You will be surprised to learn the Rommens began creating their garden only two years ago when they retired from their farm and embraced city living. These energetic and enthusiastic gardeners have transformed their new city lot by adding a vegetable garden, a gladiola garden, and many flowerbeds decorated with fun ornaments from their native Holland.

Cathy and Allan Lepine

Cathy loves to relax by gardening and created her exceptional garden in an effort to have better water drainage in her backyard. She dug a trench and created a dry brook that she lined with stone retaining walls. Next she planted flowerbeds that creep up to the edge of the brook. They are filled with a large variety of plants many of which have come from previous gardens. One miniature chestnut has traveled with Cathy for 35 years.

Yuming Ye

In this unique Tai Chi energy healing garden you will appreciate the fascinating traditional Chinese calligraphic art, authentic Asian garden decorations, many profound healing sayings, beautiful flowers, and bonsai trees. See if you can feel the positive energy.

Bob and Maureen Wallace

Six years ago, Bob and Maureen built a home nestled in mature white pine and hemlock trees. Maureen, a novice gardener, was inspired by the book Front Yard Gardens and yearned for a yard filled with plants, shrubs and trees rather than an expanse of lawn. The result is a breath-taking cottage garden that always has something in bloom. Its natural beauty blends perfectly with its surroundings.

Jac' Pinot
Visitors will enjoy a private gated property with five acres of land, lush landscaping, flowerbeds with unique perennials, gazebos, fish ponds, apple orchards, raspberry fields, bird/butterfly houses and a Zen garden. A cafe will be available if you want to purchase a sandwich or a snack and there is lots of room to picnic. Check out the website at www.jpsfloral.com
